Semenovskaya yarn "Olesya" (100% flax, 100 g - 500 m) needles No. 2.25. Yarn consumption - 103 g. Sizes: span - 148 cm, height 78 cm. For the
first time I knitted a shawl made of flax. The first sensations were not at all enthusiastic - the thread was not elastic, the loops were bristling, the canvas was rough. The hardness and pricklyness of the thread was won over by traditional freezing (homespun canvases were laid out in the cold so that they were bleached and freezed at the same time): after washing they folded the wet shawl in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight. Before blocking, the shawl was soaked in tap water, then this water was poured out and poured the shawl with boiling water from a kettle, then rinsed again with cold tap water, adding a fabric softener to the last water. As a result, the shawl canvas turned out to be quite soft (I won't say "gentle"), comparable to cotton.

Four-sided tablecloth, size 90x90 cm.
Knitting requires about 200 g of Marisa cotton (50 g / 210 m), knitting needles No. 2.5 or No. 3 (a set of stocking knitting needles and circular needles with a length of 100 and 200 cm), hook No. 1, 75

Set: 8 loops
Distribute the loops on 4 knitting needles and knit round the circle according to the pattern.
In the circle (full row), the pattern repeat is repeated 4 times.
In the intermediate (even) rows - front loops. The loops marked in the odd rows as “crossed facial”, in even rows, also knit with facial crossed ones.

Starting from the 61st row and 141 rows inclusive, in the quarter-circle knit complete rapport loops + again loops to the left of the bold line (this is the corner of the shawl, where the fragment with leaves is divided by a double nakid path; the whole corner with leaves is based at the end one quarter-circle, as it were, on one spoke).

After 142 rows, close the loops with a crochet according to the scheme, knitting the crochets without crochets on the indicated loops, between the bars there are chains of 7 air loops.

About yarn
If you knit a napkin (tablecloth), then, of course, take cotton, and the thinner the better. For shawls, the best option is pure wool. According to the needlewomen from the Hannelore project on the Ravelry website, who used different yarns for this model, the average consumption is 1200 meters - this is about the wool thread and cotton. I knitted from Pekhorka. Australian merino yarn, 100% wool merino, 400 m in 100 g. My shawl weighs 275 g, which is 1100 m.

About knitting needles.
It is best to start on a set of bamboo knitting needles - the thread does not slip, the loops are not twisted, the knitting is held firmly in your hands. Then, as the number of loops increased, I switched to circular needles - I switched from five stocking needles to first circular needles on the 17th row. You can knit the entire shawl with one number of needles or increase the size of the needles (the farther from the center, the greater the number of the needles), but you need to take into account the length of the needles - it is very inconvenient to knit the first rows on long circular needles, so I used the first circular needles No. 2, 5 40 cm long, the second - № 2.75 80 cm long, the third - № 3 120 cm long.
